What's different, and where to start

Timeless XI adds a lot on top of the classic game. This page covers the systems you'll meet in your first week, how they fit together, and the commands that open them.

Part 1

Making money and progress

Gathering, digging and crafting all level much faster here, and they feed a crafting guild that pays you in grubstakes, the server's own currency.

Gathering

Logging, mining, harvesting and excavation each have their own level, 1 to 100. Higher levels mean fewer broken tools, more finds and more rare finds. Every zone has a rich spot that moves each Vana'diel day: points near it give double experience and better finds.

!gather shows your levels and whether you're hot or cold.

Chocobo digging and raising

Digging experience is six times faster, with 250 finds a day. Watch for treasure maps, a daily rich vein and three daily digging requests. A chocobo you raised yourself digs far better than a rental, and raising is four times faster than retail: buy an egg from Dabih Jajalioh in Lower Jeuno.

!dig gives vein hints · !chocobo checks on your bird

Crafting

Rested synths. Every hour away from crafting banks 2 (up to 50), each worth +15% skill-up chance.

Flash of Insight. A 2% chance of a big skill-up or a high-quality boost.

Lessons. A break on a synth that could skill up teaches you something, raising your next skill-up chance.

Mastery. Making the same recipe 25, 50 and 100 times raises its high-quality rate.

Craft orders. Three a day in your skill-up range, handed in to the guild crafters in Lower Jeuno for gil, standing and rested synths. !craft orders

The craftbook. /craft shows recipes in your range, what you can make now, auction house prices and your crafting status.

The Artisans Guild

Four AI crafters run the guild from the Chamber of Commerce in Lower Jeuno.

  • Commissions: bring the ingredients and a fee, and they craft it for you without ever failing.
  • Requests: every 3 hours each crafter posts material requests that pay above NPC price.
  • Standing: both raise your guild rank, which brings discounts and titles.

!guild shows it all.

Gathering expeditions

The guild always has a crew out in a beastman land for 2 hours. Help it by donating gear, food or gil at a quartermaster beside Home Point #1 in San d'Oria, Bastok or Windurst, or by defeating beastmen in that land. Helping earns grubstakes, and a successful trip pays dividends.

!expedition shows the current trip.

Spending grubstakes

Vault rare finds at the quartermasters.

Supply crates of crafting materials at the guild hall.

The Grubstake Shop (!shop): extra kept-companion slots, a job-cooldown reset, rested synths, guild crafting gear, chocobo treats, a gathering boost, a Champion lure, a server-wide feast, or cashing out for gil.

Part 2

Champions and the Bounty Board

About 1 ordinary monster in 200 turns out to be a Champion: tougher, with special traits, and worth bonus experience, gil, crafting materials and trophies. It's decided the first time someone fights it, and only for monsters worth experience to you.

Champion ranks
Rank How often HP Traits Rewards
ChampionMost of them×21 (sometimes 2 from level 50)Normal
Elite15%, level 20+×32×2; the whole zone is told
Legendary3%, level 40+×43×5, often rare furniture; the linkshell is told

Traits to know

A Champion's name shows its traits, such as "Vampiric Goblin Smithy". !champions look describes your target's, and your companions call out a tip when one appears.

  • Shielded takes less from weapons (use magic); Warded takes less from magic (use weapons).
  • Vampiric heals as it hits; Renewing regenerates until you poison it or cast Bio or Dia.
  • Thorned burns you when you hit it in melee; Elemental is healed by one element (its name says which).
  • Undying recovers once when nearly beaten; Alpha pulls nearby monsters of its kind into the fight.

Trophies and the Bestiary

Every Champion gives everyone in the alliance trophies for each of its traits. Spend them with !trophies buy <n> on clusters, materials, Hunter's Marks, Mog Tokens, lures, rare furniture, or a themed reward for each trait.

Your Bestiary counts kills by trait and by monster family. At 10, 25 and 50 kills of a trait you deal more damage to Champions with it. !champions shows your record; /craft champions shows it all in a window.

More Champions: a Champion lure makes them six times as common for 30 minutes. Dark furniture in your Mog House helps too.

The Bounty Board

!bounty, or "Bounties" at a quartermaster.

Daily, 3 each Japanese day: a Champion, a notorious monster, a number of one monster family, and beastmen in the expedition's land. Each pays grubstakes, guild standing and a Hunter's Mark, plus a bonus Mark for all three.

Weekly, 2 each week: bigger hunts such as several Champions, a two-trait Champion, or the expedition's raider, for more of everything.

Hunter's Marks (!bounty shop) buy Champion lures, grubstakes, or a clue that makes the next notorious monster drop a lost guild recipe.

Part 3

Your Mog House and garden

Furniture you place in your Mog House powers bonuses you carry everywhere, and gardening has its own levels and rare crops.

Furniture bonuses: the Hearth

Each piece adds points to its element, and pieces crafters can make count double. At 12, 30 and 60 points an element reaches tiers 1, 2 and 3.

Element What it improves Tier 1 / 2 / 3
FireRested synths banked per hour+1 / +2 / +3
IceCompanion errands finish sooner10% / 20% / 30%

WaterHigh-quality synth rate+5 / +10 / +15
LightExtra bond with companions25% / 50% / 75% chance
DarkChampion chance+20% / +40% / +60%

Get every element to tier 1 and your home becomes Harmonious: each element counts one tier higher. Eight furniture sets add a perk when all their pieces are placed, such as an extra Hunter's Mark per bounty or longer Champion lures.

!hearth shows your points · !hearth sets your sets · /craft mog the best craftable pieces for each element

Moogle chores

Your moogle asks for two small chores a day, such as gathering, digging, a few synths, a harvest, a bounty, or handing it some common materials. Each pays 3 Mog Tokens, plus 2 for doing both.

!chores lists them (!chores swap <n> once a day). !moogle in your Mog House spends tokens on rare furniture, seeds, flowerpots, chocobo treats and rested synths.

Gardening

Plant seeds in flowerpots as usual; the pot's element and your furniture now affect what grows.

  • Gardening level (1 to 100) rises with every harvest: more crops, a chance to get the seeds back, and plants that take longer to wilt.
  • Crossbreeds: the right plant, crystal and flowerpot can give a rare crop. !garden crosses is your journal.
  • !garden pots shows what's growing, when it wants a crystal, when to examine it, and about when it's ready. A line at login tells you if anything needs attention.

Part 4

Job quests and special rewards

Every job has its own quest line with a weapon you can't get anywhere else. Most need level 60+ with that job as your main job. The rewards are Rare/Ex (one per character), and each quest tests what the job is good at, so expect a duel or a fight with a rule attached.

The Bestiary (any job, 30+): Quillon, Upper Jeuno

Jack of All Trades (Red Mage): Brakk, Lower Jeuno

Busking (Bard): Odette

House Calls (White Mage): Doctor Mizzi-Pazzi, Windurst Waters

Part 6

Tips and getting help

  1. Play through the Timeless XI Launcher It adds the custom item windows and the add-ons you need.
  2. Bring companions early They fill the party gaps while you level, and grow stronger as your bond with them rises.
  3. Pick a craft and a gathering skill on day one They level alongside you and feed the guild, the garden and the shop.
  4. Check your Mog House after each session Chores, the garden and the Hearth reward you for coming home.
  5. Watch for Champions A monster with a title is tougher but drops trophies and Bestiary progress. Don't take on a high rank alone.
  6. Save your job quest for 60 Most open at level 60, and the weapons carry you to 75.
  7. Lost? Type the ! command for a system with nothing after it for its help, or open /craft to see recipes, pots and Champions in one place.
  8. Something broken? Note the time, your zone and what you did, and tell the server admin.
